Dr Alisa Bartel

Psychologist, PhD

Dr. Alisa Bartel is a Clinical Psychologist who specializes in the unique psychological challenges faced by Special Operations Forces, combat veterans, first responders, and their families. She brings a rare combination of clinical expertise and lived family experience: As the wife of a Purple Heart combat veteran with PTSD and stepdaughter to a retired Green Beret, she understands both sides of military life—the professional demands and the family impact. This dual perspective allows her to work with SOF personnel who need someone who "gets it" without requiring extensive explanation of military culture, brotherhood bonds, or operational realities. Rather than treating SOF adaptations as pathology, she helps clients maintain their professional edge while building emotional connectivity. Her approach recognizes that the same qualities that make someone elite professionally—tactical empathy, situational awareness, loyalty—are exactly what make exceptional partners and parents when applied intentionally to relationships. For SOF spouses, she addresses the unique challenges of loving someone whose identity and nervous system have been shaped by life-or-death experiences. She understands the emotional labor spouses carry, the complexity of parenting with PTSD, and the integration challenges that civilian relationship advice doesn't address. "Keep your edge sharp and your heart open." Dr. Bartel believes SOF personnel shouldn't have to choose between professional excellence and emotional availability. Her mission is helping warriors integrate these strengths rather than eliminate the qualities that make them elite. Treatments may include talk, skills, and exposure/EMDR therapy. Dr. Bartel is committed to providing mental health care that honors SOF culture while supporting the emotional integration needed for thriving family relationships. She offers free consultations to determine if her specialized approach aligns with your needs. Dr. Bartel is licensed in Colorado and authorized to practice telehealth outside CO, using the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT), granted by the PSYPACT Commission (Exp. date: 08/23/2025, #:15640).
